This is an old thread that got lost in the shuffle, but I am posting it again. I took the following pictures during a trip to Dubai last June.

Compare and contrast with Kuwait's Ministry of Energy, an entity that cannot guarantee water or electricity to all citizens and would rather blame its own citizens for water and electricity usage in 55 degree heat during August than accept responsibility.

4 years on after the 'historic' and 'productive' Asian tour we are still discussing ways and means with Singapore on how to build and operate E-government.

THE ANSWER IS REALLY PLAIN AND SIMPLE:
Majlis al-Umma is the reason we dont move ahead. Why? I will tell why: does dubai got a MAJLIS???
Thats what i mean, they got a one man show, we on the other hand, have to play with 50 losers in parliament.
Now that sucks.

You know Amer, its really sad that Kuwait has to be the country that sits silently in the back while other countries like the UAE show off the rest of the world. Their electricity and water ministries are building ice skating rinks for the public, yet our ministry fails to provide a proper electric grid to power the city. The list of reasons why Kuwait is so far back in time is endless, and I cannot stress this point enough, it really honestly is sad.
Also, though I am currently living in Kuwait, I was raised in Boston, so the introduction of Borders to the Middle East is really exciting. I hope Barnes & Noble's tags along soon!

Welcome to the Blog Bostonian and thanks for your input.
Sad thing is young people in Kuwait are frustrated. They could use a Borders - a bookstore with a cafe and lounge with thousands of books and magazines where they could read, hang out, study etc - but the Ministry of Information would kill the place, subjecting thousands of books to censorship or delays in getting to the customers.
It would turn into another Kuwait Virgin...limited books, limited DVD etc...having to fill space up with LCD monitors, electronic equipment cultural books...a pale imitation of any other Virgin.
No civilized democratic or semi-democratic nation - whether constitutional monarchy or otherwise - should have a Ministry of Information.

The Ministry Of Interior is a national joke. Every ministry is a national joke, not to mention a disgrace and a tremendously annoying obstacle when it comes to the development and advancement of the nation.
Dammit, why cant we have a proper comedy club? or a proper bookstore (NO, JAREER IS NOT A BOOKSTORE)? or a proper national park? or a proper... country?!?!
This country has so much potential yet we accept pathetic 200 KD bribes and shut up instead of standing up against the government for the sake of the nation. I have just given up on trying to get that idea into people's thick brainwashed heads.
I know I know, "itha moo 3ajbik get the f**k out of Kuwait". I'm just saying what I'm saying cuz its true and its for the better.
Kuwait is sitting on a throne made of the money needed to develop this country into one that can rival many modern international cities, so why not go head and do it???

Majlis Al Uma is the proud of Kuwait, democracy speaks for its self, the hell with all the goodi goodi things in dubai, GOD BLESS THIS COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE.. Shame on those dissing their own country like this... The problem is not within the Majlis or the system.. its the coruption thats with in our system, making us lag behind.. We need a revolution of the minds, educate the people and let the old generation kick back and relaxe as the new talented filled with inspiration from the love of this country to run it and make shine like it did back in Kuwaits "Golden Era".

Great pictures of Dubai, Amer.
They sure speak 1000 words, mate. That's all that needed to be said, especially the water/elec stuff.
